Local Area

Coolbeg is situated at the East Shore of Upper Lough Erne within a special area of conservation and site of scientific interest.

Upper Lough Erne is a maze of tiny islands, inlets and peninsulas and Coolbeg is well situated as a lough touring base for nature lovers, anglers or water sports enthusiasts. The area is also rich in historical heritage, boasting three National Trust properties in close proximity;at least 8 plantation castles, neolithic tombs and iron age forts, early Irish monastic sites including the island sites of Devenish and White island and an excellent county museum.

An eight minute car journey from Coolbeg is Lisnaskea, Fermanagh’s second largest town with supermarkets, restaurants, takeaways and lively pubs.

Enniskillen, Fermanagh’s country town is only twenty minutes by car. As an island town between upper and lower Lough Erne, the town centre is based along the long narrow main street. This gives the town a real sense of bustle and life as well as imbuing the shops with their own unique character.

The Lough is right next to the town and parking for the town centre is alongside the marinas and moorings. An excellent venue for shopping and eating and there is a lively hub of activities, events and things to do throughout the year.

Thirty minutes by car will take you into the Cuilcagh Mountains for breathtaking scenery. Sixty minutes will take you to the Donegal or Sligo coastlines with rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, big surfs and Yeats Country
